Download or read Sesher Kobita PDF, written by Rabindranath Tagore and published by books catalog. This book was released on 2006 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Sesher Kbaita, Rabindranath Tagore knocks away social and familial props just to set a young man and a woman talking to one another. Tagore maps the emotional evolution through a series of scintillating conversations between the two protagonists - Amit Rai and Labanyalata. Seshar Kabita has many layers; it is an unusual love story on the surface, but the deeper one moves into the story, one realizes that Tagore is subtly slipping in other elements as well. Is love important in marriage? Does marriage leave space, physical abnd mental, for both the partners? And then there is Tagore's awareness of the Bengali language itself, with which he plays elaborate language games. The startingly contemporaneous engagement with issues of romantic love and the responsibilities and everydayness of marriage is gripping: there may be nods of agreement, or spectical headshakes, but to avoid reflection on the questions Tagore raises, is impossible.
Download or read Fiction as History PDF, written by Vasudha Dalmia and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2019-08-01 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explains the Hindi novel’s role in anticipating and creating the story of middle-class modernity and modernization in North India. Vasudha Dalmia offers a panoramic view of the intellectual and cultural life of North India over a century, from the aftermath of the 1857 uprising to the end of the Nehruvian era. The North’s historical cities, rooted in an Indo-Persianate culture, began changing more slowly than the Presidency towns founded by the British. Dalmia takes up eight canonical Hindi novels set in six of these cities—Agra, Allahabad, Banaras, Delhi, Lahore, and Lucknow—to trace a literary history of domestic and political cataclysms. Her exploration of the emerging Hindu middle classes, changing personal and professional ambitions, and new notions of married life provides a vivid sense of urban modernity. She argues that the radical social transformations associated with post-1857 urban restructuring, and the political flux resulting from social reform, Gandhian nationalism, communalism, Partition, and the Cold War shaped the realm of the intimate as much as the public sphere. Love and friendship, notions of privacy, attitudes to women’s work, and relationships within households are among the book’s major themes.

When Lizba Siddique, a fierce and daring cop from the Delhi Police’s crime branch, comes across this case, she immediately finds that there is more to Arpana’s death than what meets the eye. As she moves to reopen the case, she faces life-threatening challenges that could rattle anyone. Why was Arpana, just another tourist girl, murdered so mysteriously? Why is the only person who could be the witness, Raju, being framed and silenced? Who could be behind all this? Download or read Tagore At Home in the World PDF, written by Sanjukta Dasgupta and published by SAGE Publications India. This book was released on 2013-02-08 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of 22 essays spans a wide trajectory, foregrounding the texts of Tagore and Tagore as text. The Tagorean spirit that makes the bard so relevant in the 21st century forms the basis of this compilation. Tagore's travels to various parts of the world, his reception and response to diverse cultures, his scepticism about the rigid parameters of nationalism all establish the perception that Tagore was remarkably at home in the world. Tagore's concern was with life, play and contingency-with the momentary as well as the eternal. It is this strain of unacknowledged modernism and life-affirming vision that make his work powerful. A believer in freedom of the individual, creative freedom and freedom of all, his words are as pertinent in today's context as they were in his time. This volume analyses how the constrictions of the specificities of place, location and geographies have always been interrogated by Tagore for whom space was a defining trope. With contributions from some leading Tagore experts both from India and abroad, this volume enables us to re-read Tagore as a messenger of world harmony and peace.
